Blaaah

I'm uber bored, and really don't feel like doing anything, so I'm posting. Don't get your hopes up for more in the near future.

So anyway, I feel relatively shitty at the moment. I'm completely physically drained, even though I got 10 hours of sleep. I have a headache for some reason. I've got a fever. It's like 3000 degrees outside, but right now I'm wearing jeans, my hoodie, and am covered in a blanket because I'm freezing and I was shivering like crazy. I asked my mom what was up (she's a microbiologist and all that jazz, so I figured she'd know if it was anything I had to worry about), and she said it's probably just the meningitis vaccine I got yesterday, which makes perfect sense, but still doesn't make me feel any better. But at least that means that's probably why I'm so tired. It sucks feeling so exhausted as soon as I wake up.

On a (somewhat) happier note, this is my last day of "school". Tomorrow I graduate with a bunch of other homeschooled kids in Richmond, then on Sunday is my grad party, then I'll be free. The problem is the only thing I'm motivated to do right now is sit and do nothing. It's balls. But I'll make myself finish everything once I post.

I have to go take senior pictures today. Not looking forward to that. I've already got senior pictures. "But these will be much better. More professional" so my mom says. Still, it's like an hour and a half and I'm not feeling well, so I'd rather just stay home. But oh well. I'll live.

Anyway, that's all I got right now. Sorry it wasn't the most cheery of posts, but I'll do my best to post more often (don't hold your breath for too long though).

Aww, sucks that your feeling bad. But since it's probably the vaccine, you'll probably get over it pretty fast.

So you'll be done eh? Jam time maybe sorta yes?

I feel a lot better already. I napped, and I think that helped.

Yeah, tomorrow I'll officially be done with high school. Definitely opens up my schedule a bit.

Good. I'm feeling really discontented with my playing a need a good jam.

I need some new strings first and foremost. Do you recommend any? I don't know what I'm doing when it comes to strings.

I REALLY love Ernie Ball slinkies on my strat cause they are bright and twangy for strats. On my PRS I use a lot of different kinds. I think GHS boomers would be great for you though. I used them for a long time, and then went to D'addario and now I'm back to them. They have thicker low strings so you can downtune and still keep close to the same tension. I'd definately check out GHS boomers, and if not those, Elixirs last forever, but they are really bright.

Yeah, I've got D'addarios on it now, but I want to get some different ones. I was thinkin' about elixers, cuz I'm lazy and don't like to change my strings around a lot. I'll check out the boomers, but I'll probably get some elixers.

Mmmk. Do you want to try and jam before I leave? I get out a 12:25 tomorrow and I'm off friday mostly.

Want to: yes
Able to: not so much
I have Bach Festival stuff all week. Today isn't good because I have another rehearsal in the afternoon. Tomorrow I've got a dress rehearsal and a concert, and I already told some of my other friends that I'd go see a movie with them around noon. How long are you gonna be gone? I would love to get a jam in before you leave, but I don't see how we can.

I have a question for you about my amp. Is it necessary/how often should I get the tubes changed. Cuz yesterday I was playing, and periodically it would kinda just get really quite, even though I wasn't changing anything, and it's like I had to wait awhile for it to "reboot" or something. Since I know basically nothing about guitar/amp hardware, I don't know why that was happening. Any ideas?

Ahh mk. I'm actually really busy up until the hour I leave on the 15th. The only chance I would have is on saturday when I'm done with the 2 graduation parties I'm going to.

See that's interesting.... I play a lot more than you I think just because you've been so busy, and mine are holding up well. I also play with mine on 7-10 half the time too. I drive mine REALLY hard. That really does sound like a power tube problem. I'd check to make sure they are all screwed in tight. Are you having tonal issues? Like really sharp or really mellow no matter what you do with the knobs?
It MIGHT also be a guitar problem, my strat pups got their wires pulled and would occasionally lose volume if I held my guitar wrong. Another thing to try is plugging into the second input, which is quieter and designed for high output pickups. Valveking jacks are poorly soldered, and I broke my first input jack, so I had a crazy volume loss, but it was all the time. It could be a bunch of things. I can check it out if we get together.

Yeah, it's only happened to me during one session, and not very much then. Hopefully it'll just quit, but if not then you can check it out. I'm afraid to mess with anything because of how little I know about it, so I wouldn't want to screw anything up that was fine.

Ah yeah, But that's how you learn! haha I've broken my amp so many times trying to fix it. But that's how I got good at it. Same with guitar. I was the one who damaged the pups in the first place. But I learned how to fix them.

Purists say change them every six months. But that's like the guys who say change your strings once a week. Eric changes his every like...year and a half or two years. I've even read like...guitar tech interviews for Clapton and Gilmour's techs. They say they swap the tubes once every 6 months or so, and those guys play almost every night at full volume.

Aceroth said...

Yeah, but if I break it TOO badly, I'm down quite a few bucks :P

I wasn't sure what it was, and the tubes was all I could think of. But it sounds like it's probably not that (thankfully). I'll let you know if it happens again.

hahaha that's true.

I'm about to trade mine in and get a JCM-600 JCM-800 or JCM-900 combo. I just can't get the tone out of it I want any more.

Aceroth said...

Well the VK is fine for me right now. I don't play enough or with a particular style to justify getting a stack or anything. Though it would be freakin sweet.

Zach said...

Yeah. I don't even want a stack. I want a 50 watt combo. And if I can I want to get somebody to mod it to split in half and do 25 watts. I want less power than I used to have.

Did I tell you? My Grandma is buying me a guitar I think.
